Development Director
Position Description
Cedarwood Waldorf School, located in Portland, Ore., is seeking a new development director. The job is a full-time, onsite position (which is hired via annual 12-month contracts). The development director reports directly to the head of school and is for immediate hire.

General Summary
The development director has overall responsibility for the school's fundraising and volunteer activity, working closely with Communication Coordinator and Community Engagement Manager. The ideal candidate will continue to educate the community about philanthropy, lead campaign efforts, manage volunteers, and build a sense of community by connecting people.

General Responsibilities:
• Create and execute a comprehensive multi-year plan for the school
• Identify, cultivate, and steward CWS families and key constituents
• Adhere to gift acceptance policies, donor recognition policies, and stewardship guidelines
• Represent the school at appropriate meetings and events
• Recruit, guide, and acknowledge volunteers in collaboration with community engagement manager
• Provide information and support the parent council and board of trustees, including attendance at meetings and preparation of reports
• Develop and manage annual Advancement budget
• Provide leadership and support for the board and committees, including identification and recruitment of members

The CWS Annual Fund
Cedarwood has held three events to fund and advance our mission:
Annual Fund, Winter Faire, Annual Auction
• Set yearly CWS Fund goals with the advancement team and board of trustees
• Develop marketing materials and solicitation strategy
• Establish strong working relationships with advancement volunteers
• Track, record, and promptly acknowledge gifts
• Coordinate advancement committee meetings
• Acknowledge and steward donors appropriately
• Ensure CWS fund solicitation is coordinated with other fundraising efforts

Major Gifts: Believe in Cedarwood
• Develop strategies and proposal for implementing an endowment campaign
• Create an endowment committee
• Identify and develop capital campaigns as needed for the school advancement
The Director of Development is responsible for enhancing relationships with the multiple constituents that contribute to the school's success. This includes developing messaging, print, and web materials for internal and external audiences—working alongside the communications coordinator and communications team.
• With communications coordinator collateral materials including invitations and programs for events, email bulletins, and other web-based and print-based communication material
• Support communications coordinator to oversee CWS website, both internally and externally
• Coordinate with community engagement manager grandparents and special friends Day, spring gala, and alumni reunions and all other donor and volunteer events.
• Craft and execute strategies to build alumni family relationships and involvement with the school
Experience and Desirable Qualities
• Hold a bachelor's degree, master preferred or an equivelent in years of experience (10 plus years working in advancement position at a Waldorf School)
• Fours experience working in development, preferably a school environment
• Leadership experience in developing and executing capital and endowment campaigns
• Experience coordinating and training fundraising volunteers
• Develop and maintain a positive and professional relationships with others
• Must possess a cooperative nature, which allows for a cooperative team effort with others
• Communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing with supervisors, colleagues and individuals inside and outside the school
• Ability to keep information in the strictest of confidence. Be depended on to report to work at the scheduled time and seldom be absent from work.
