Create a Culture of Evaluation In your organization
by the Oregon Program Evaluators Network (OPEN) and Dr. Steve Patty
As expectations increase for organizational accountability, impact measurement, performance assessment, continual improvement, and quality assessment, leaders face the ongoing challenge of embedding habits of reflection within organizations.
The temptation for many leaders is either to hire an evaluation consultant or to establish a department within their organization to which they can delegate evaluation. Both have their place. But if leaders desire to maximize the developmental power of evaluation, they will need to create a culture of evaluation throughout their organization. They will need to embed ways of thinking and doing evaluation that incorporate simple and elegant ideas and that are meaningful and sustainable for staff and stakeholders. Leaders that nurture a culture of evaluation create learning organization and secure amplified impact.
This seminar will explore keys to developing crisp and clear evaluation strategies that can be joined by whole organizations, and that will create sustainable cultures of evaluation. In this seminar, participants will gain
- guiding principles for impact evaluation,
- exemplars of culture-building in evaluation,
- key models of evaluation that have been tested in national nonprofit organizations,
- tips for gaining participation and embedding habits in organizations, and
- ways to engage people with ideas of social impact through evaluation.
