Don Worth Drum Studio ------ Learn the chops to throw down

Went to see the Drum Corps show in Hillsboro this summer, and if any drummer would like to be able to throw down like the Santa Clara Vanguard I can show you chops for days and still have more to show you. Want to get a better spot on your Drum Line next year, study with me and I will show you how to throw down. All of those chops can then be applied to the drum set to become the next Vinnie or Jo Jo Mayer.

Sonor S Classix Drumset 4pc $1880

Sonor S Classix Drumset - Sonors second highest line of drums in a hard to find "bebop" configuration. The shells are Scandinavian birch with a beautiful rosewood veneer. Drum sizes are 12x9, 14x14, 18x16, and 14x5. I purchased these drums new in 2008 and they are in immaculate condition. This shell pack is a bargain at $1880, but I'm throwing in a complete hardware pack as a "recession bonus". Call Sean at 503-752-9314, or email if you prefer. Check 'em out.

H1N1??? Come get your Shot of Mercury! Do you love no-frills, straight up rock n’ roll? Maybe with a little shot of metal added in? Do you play guitar? Did Rick Allen drum with both arms in your lifetime? Then, you may be the missing strand of DNA for our band, Shot of Mercury.

We seek a 2nd guitarist. Interested? Check us out at www.shotofmercury.com or www.myspace.com/shotofmercury

Respond to this ad if you like what you hear. We practice in SE, but our slacker bass player would love a ride from SW if you live nearby!

Drum Lessons: Drum Set and/or West African Percussion

posted: October 15, 2009, 12:20 PM

Professional drumming instruction from an active performer with years of teaching experience.

Lessons are great for those aspiring to play drums for the first time or for those with a desire to improve and take it to the next level. Professional instruction can inspire, give freshness to a practice routine, and help with creative thinking.

Students can improve their abilities and expand their knowledge in different areas listed below.

-Time keeping
-Drum set up (ergonomics)
-Reading
-Rudiments
-Independence (Coordination or Interdependence)
-Different styles of drumming
-Efficient technique for hands and feet (including the Moeller Technique)
-Advanced rhythmic concepts such as beat displacement, poly rhythm and African rhythms for the drum set

Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses and each lesson is designed for each student. An experienced teacher has systems to help a student improve but also understands that the same approach will not work for every student. A student can learn to play beats for the first time or they can learn different approaches that help them climb from a plateau.

Private lessons are in Northeast Portland Oregon in the Alberta Arts district. The studio has two drum sets as well as various percussion (congas, djembe, doumbek, cajon and dununs).

Teacher information:

Lessons are taught by Clifford Koufman. Clifford is an experienced teacher and performer. He has taken lessons with jazz legend Bob Moses, as well as Billy Martin (Medeski, Martin and Wood), Gary Chaffee, Bob Guliotti, Bob Kaufman and Mel Brown. He has studied music in Ghana and Guinea West Africa.

Call to set up lessons.
